GENEVA (AFP) - Zurich were crowned Swiss champions for the second year running late Thursday after a 2-0 victory in the local derby against Grasshoppers on the final day of the season.

Basel shrugged off a shaky start to the season to claim second place just one point behind, after a nail-biting finish to the Swiss Super League which saw the top teams shadow each other over the final month.

Basel's 2-0 defeat of Young Boys edged the Bernese side out of third place and a UEFA Cup slot, which went to Sion.
