Bremen´s Frings ends Juventus switch speculation

BREMEN, Germany (AFP) - German international midfielder Torsten Frings ended speculation of a possible switch to Italian giants Juventus by signing a two-year extension to his Werder Bremen contract on Wednesday.

Frings, 30, has signed an extension which will keep him at Bremen, currently third in the Bundesliga, until 2011, according to German sports website Kicker.

Both Frings and World Cup top goal-scorer Miroslav Klose have now committed to Bremen, who are locked in a race for the title with league-leaders Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart, ending weeks of speculation the pair were set to leave.

"I have thought about it enough and Werder is the club dear to my heart," Frings said after turning down Juventus, who are strengthening their squad for a return to Italy's top-flight.

The attacking midfielder, initially under contract until 2009, went to Turin last month to meet with Juventus officials, but the 66-time capped Frings, who has scored nine goals for his country, rejected the rumoured 6.6 million euro offer (9 million dollars).
