Soccerway - 29 March 2007 01:17

BELFAST, Mar 28 (SW) - Northern Ireland took a surprise lead in Euro 2008 qualifying group F on Wednesday as a David Healy brace spurred them to a 2-1 victory over Sweden at Windsor Park.

The Swedes were the ones who made the breakthrough on 26 minutes as Johan Elmander volleyed past Maik Taylor, but striker David Healy leveled for the home side just five minutes later with a volley of his own.

The Irish continued their impressive form and played very well against the favored Scandinavians, eventually taking the lead just short of the hour mark, Healy bagging his fifth goal in just two games.

Spain stayed within four points of Northern Ireland, also with a game in hand, after their 1-0 victory over Iceland thanks to a goal by Andrés Iniesta nine minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Liechtenstein collected their first victory of the qualifying campaign as they took down Latvia 1-0 in Vaduz on a Daniel Frick goal in the 17th minute.
