Coleman linked to Sociedad job

27 June 2007 23:45

LONDON (AFP) - Relegated Spanish outfit Real Sociedad are believed to be holding talks with former Fulham manager Chris Coleman, according to the BBC on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old former Wales international defender is considered one of the brightest young coaches in England but was sacked by Fulham last April when they were teetering on being relegated - Lawrie Sanchez was brought in and ultimately saved them.

Should Coleman get the job he would be replacing Miguel Angel Lotina, who quit as Sociedad's coach following their relegation from the First Division earlier this month.

Lotina had been appointed in October but was unable to stop Sociedad being relegated for the first time in 40 years.

Coleman joined Fulham as a player in 1997 in a 2million pounds move from Blackburn, but injuries suffered in a car crash in 2001 led to his retirement less then two years later.

He took over as manager in April 2003 following the departure of Frenchman Jean Tigana and though he maintained their Premiership status throughout his tenure he failed to deliver them a trophy.
