Indonesia beat Jamaica 2-1 in friendly

JAKARTA (AFP) - Host Indonesia beat Jamaica 2-1 in a friendly here Thursday in a slow game that pitted the mostly defensive visitors against an aggressive but uncoordinated home team.
Indonesia, playing without their star striker Boaz Salosa, who was injured in a friendly against Hong Kong earlier this month, pressurised the Jamaicans most of the time. The first half saw striker Ellie Aiboy failing pitifully to take on Salosa's traditional leading role. Jamaica's goalkeeper, Richard McCallum, thwarted at least two shots. Indonesian striker Bambang Pamungkas snatched the first goal with a lightning solo attack 13 minutes into the second half. The second half started quickly, with Indonesia camped in front of the Jamaican goal, but the home team's coordination waned and the pace slackened. Jamaica's Wory Wolfe, 23, then scored his team's only goal in the 72nd minute with a straight left shot after breaking through a weak Indonesian defence. Pamungkas netted a second Indonesian goal in injury time, seizing a pass by Buddy Sudarsono. Indonesia are playing friendlies ahead of the Asian Cup and will kick off the tournament with a match against Bahrain in the capital Jakarta on July 10. |
