No change at Barca, says chairman

19 June 2007 15:15

BARCELONA, Spain (AFP) - Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta, said Tuesday that he expected Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard and top stars Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o to stay at the club next season.

"Neither Ronaldinho nor Eto'o are for sale. They are two players we want for the future," Laporta said, moving to quell speculation with AC Milan interested in both players and reports of interest from Liverpool for Eto'o.

Cameroon striker Eto'o and Rijkaard fell out mid-season and although they patched up their differences the Catalan giants, Liga and Champions League winners last season, ended this term empty-handed after Real Madrid pipped them at the post for domestic glory on Sunday.

In response to media stories of a love of some players for Barcelona nightlife Laporta said squad changes for the new season had already been decided on but added that "the internal disciplinary code will be applied rigorously and unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated."

He further called for "greater commitment," a comment he also made at the weekend which did not go down well with the squad.

Midfielder Xavi said Monday in allusion to the comment that the players had suffered more from an "excess of confidence than a lack of commitment."
