LOS ANGELES (AFP) - England star David Beckham, suffering a sore left ankle that trimmed his much-heralded debut with Los Angeles to a 12-minute substitute's cameo, is questionable for the Galaxy's game Tuesday.
Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said on the club website Monday that the team will provide the British playmaker whatever time he needs to recover before the team returns to Major League Soccer action on August 5 at Toronto.
But before that, the Galaxy will play three matches in a new Superliga competition involving US and Mexican clubs that starts here Tuesday against Mexico's Pachuca and Saturday against Guadalajara at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
While not ruling out a Beckham appearance Tuesday, Yallop said it is much more likely Beckham will play Saturday, when the Galaxy plays a popular Mexican club in a large venue expected to be crowded with supporters for the visitors.
Yallop said the club would have had no problem if Beckham had backed out of any appearance in last Saturday's 1-0 match against Chelsea, one jam-packed with celebrities and heavily billed as Beckham's debut.
"It shows the measure of the man that he wants to do that. He got through it," Yallop said.
