DUSSELDORF, Germany (AFP) - Mario Gomez announced himself as a star of the future when he made a goal-scoring international debut as Germany easily overcame Switzerland 3-1 in a friendly.

The 21-year-old Stuttgart striker, the top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 11 goals, found the net on the half-hour mark as Germany warmed up for their crucial Euro 2008 qualifying match against the Czech Republic next month in style.

Also on the scoresheet was Kevin Kuryani, making his first appearance for 15 months after missing out on the World Cup, while Torsten Frings hit the third with a freekick.

It was Kuryani´s 15th international goal and it went a long way in pushing his case for a starting place to face the Czechs at the end of March especially with Miroslav Klose suspended.

Klose also missed Wednesday´s match with an injury and Kuryani, whose goals have helped take Schalke to the top of the table this season, made the most of his opportunity with his 15th international strike.

His goal came after just eight minutes when he headed in a cross from Michael Ballack.

Gomez headed in the second on the half hour mark.

The Swiss were struggling to keep up with the German attacks with Alexander Frei having a half-chance all alone from a corner while Jens Lehmann comfortably saved from Hakan Yakin.

Swiss coach Kobi Kuhn withdrew Frei and Yakin after the break but it was to little avail as Frings added the third goal from a 66th-minute freekick.

Five minutes later, Marco Streller exploited a defensive mix-up between Christophe Metzelder and Per Mertesacker to score a consolation goal for the Swiss.
