LONDON (AFP) - Australia striker Mark Viduka has said he was not prepared to "put a gun to anybody´s head" at the Riverside to force Middlesbrough to offer him a new contract.

The combative forward is still in the dark about whether the mid-table English Premiership side will offer him a new contract.

The 31-year-old´s deal runs out at the end of the season but Viduka said he was no clearer on whether his future lay with Gareth Southgate´s team.

"I´m a Middlesbrough player and I´ve got until the end of the season," the former Leeds United, Celtic and Dynamo Zagreb hitman said Monday.

Asked when he expected to see a new offer, he replied: "I don´t know. I´m just concentrating on my football and trying to enjoy myself for the next four or five months to the end of the season.

"I´m happy to stay at Middlesbrough. I´m not going to put a gun to anybody´s head to offer me a new deal but at the end of the season I´ll be a free agent and I haven´t been free since 1995, so maybe it will be a good thing.

"Until I´m offered something, there´s nothing really to talk about.

"I can´t give away all my cards. I´ll have to see. If there´s an offer made, I´ll definitely consider it. If not, there´s a few more months until the end of the season and I´m going to do my best for the club and for myself.

"We´re starting to get into a good patch of form and hopefully we can continue that as a team."

Middlesbrough signed Viduka from Leeds in July 2004 for 4.5 million pounds (8.8 million dollars, 6.8 million euros).

Boro are 12th in the Premiership.
