Clarke collapse leads to Cup tie abandonment

29 August 2007 11:14

NOTTINGHAM, England (AFP) - Leicester's League Cup tie at Nottingham Forest was abandoned after the Championship club's defender Clive Clarke collapsed at half-time.

Clarke needed treatment in the Leicester dressing room at the interval of the second round match on Tuesday and was taken by ambulance for hospital examination.

Although Clarke was conscious by the time he left the City Ground, the restart was delayed for 25 minutes before the match was called off.

Forest boss Colin Calderwood and Leicester manager Martin Allen came onto the pitch to announce the decision to the crowd over the public address system.

Calderwood said: "We are afraid that due to the serious illness of a Leicester player both clubs have agreed to postpone the match."

Leicester confirmed that Clarke "was in a stable condition... but would be kept in hospital overnight to monitor his progress".

League One Forest had been beating their local rivals 1-0 through Junior Agogo's 31st-minute strike.
