NEW DELHI (AFP) - India defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in a scrappy encounter to record their second successive win in the five-nation Nehru Cup football tournament here on Monday.
Captain Baichung Bhutia scored the winner in the fifth minute following a pass from the right flank, but the early goal failed to spark life in a game where both sides missed several scoring chances.
India, who thrashed Cambodia 6-0 in the first match, clash with favourites Syria on Thursday.
It was Bangladesh's second defeat in as many matches, having lost to Syria on Saturday. Bangladesh need a win against Cambodia on Wednesday to stay in contention for the final.
Kyrgyzstan are the fifth team in the round-robin league after which the top two will advance to the final on August 29.
