BORDEAUX, Mar 14 (SW) - FC Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Vladimir Smicer will miss three weeks of action after scans showed muscle damage from an injury suffered in February.

The Czech international midfielder came off early in a Ligue 1 match against Metz at the end of last month and had not played in a game for Bordeaux since, and will now miss crucial league matches with Troyes, Nice and Paris Saint-Germain as well as a French Cup tie with Montpellier.

The 32-year-old joined Bordeaux just a few weeks after he helped Liverpool make an astounding comeback to win the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League.

Bordeaux are currently vying for an automatic berth in the group stage for the 2006/07 edition of Europe's top club competition, with Lyon likely to capture one of the two spots. Bordeaux currently have a five-point lead over nearest challengers Lille for second place and have a game in hand. They are nine points adrift of Lyon at the top.
