LEVERKUSEN, Sep 5 (SW) - Germany Under-21 and Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling will be out for six weeks after suffering a groin injury early in Friday’s match against Northern Ireland.
The German squad went on to win the Under-21 European Championship qualifier 3-2, but Kiessling was forced to leave the pitch after just nine minutes.
In addition to missing out on the Under-21 squad’s match against Romania on Tuesday, Kiessling will also miss Leverkusen’s upcoming UEFA Cup tie against Swiss Super League side FC Sion.
The 22-year-old Kiessling joined Leverkusen in the summer, leaving Nuremberg in a €5-million deal.
He has gotten off to a good start with Leverkusen, assisting in two goals.
