22 September 2006 04:42

LEEDS, Sep 22 (SW) – Leeds United have replaced Kevin Blackwell with assistant John Carver.

The move comes as a temporary measure for the time being as Carver is appointed as caretaker manager by chairman Ken Bates.

“Leeds United have confirmed that John Carver will take over as the club's caretaker-manager, following the departure of Kevin Blackwell,” read a club statement.

“John will be assisted by current reserve-team manager David Geddis, and will work in close conjunction with Gwyn Williams, the club's technical director.

“This appointment will take immediate effect and his first game in charge will be against Birmingham City on Saturday.

“The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.”

With pressure on Carver to quickly turn around results which sees Leeds sitting second bottom of The Championship, former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley has been mentioned as a possible replacement.

Another contender is a Ken Bates favourite in former Chelsea skipper Dennis Wise who is currently managing Swindon Town in League Two.
