ATHENS, Sep 14 (SW) - Sevilla and Celta de Vigo achieved small away victories in the UEFA Cup first round, while both Espanyol and Osasuna were held to 2-2 draws.
Atromitos - Sevilla 1-2 Sevilla, who won the UEFA Cup last season, needed 14 minutes to take the lead through Blanco Kepa, and Duda added the second goal in the 42nd minute. Things have not yet been decided however as Giorgos Korakakis got one back for the home side in the 64th minute. Artmedia - Espanyol 2-2 Albert Riera put Espanyol ahead just after the half hour mark, but Juraj Halenar and Daniel Tchur turned things around in the 36th and 41st minute. Veteran Walter Gerardo Pandiani levelled the score for the Spaniards in the 53rd minute. Trabzonspor - Osasuna 2-2 Despite losing Jose Izquierdo to a red card in the 40th minute, Osasuna took a comfortable lead with goals from Valdo and Juanlu. However, only a minute after OSasuna's last goal it was Gokdeniz Karadeniz to get one back for Trabzonspor and Umut Bulut even equalized in the 89th minute. Standard Liege - Celta 0-1 Standard Liege failed to surprise their Spanish visitors, who only needed one goal, from Gustavo Adrian Lopez in the 38th minute, to give the Belgians a tough task for the return leg. |
