Ivanauskus: My job not in danger

EDINBURGH, Sep 14 (SW) - Heart of Midlothian coach Valdas Ivanauskas insists that his job as head coach of the Scottish club is not in danger, no matter what rumours suggest.

Hearts have gotten off to a poor start this season, failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage – a big ambition of Hearts’ controlling shareholder Vladimir Romanov - and have already dropped two Scottish Premier League matches.

Despite Romanov already having dispatched two coaches in his short spell in control of the Edinburgh club, Ivanauskas is confident that his spell with Hearts will continue.

"My job is not a problem, I try to give my best. I am the manager but my future is not interesting,” Ivanauskas said.

"It is the club's future which is interesting and the players who are important.

"I want the players to want to win every game and my target this year or maybe in two years' time, is for Hearts to be famous in Europe.”

Hearts host Sparta Prague tonight in the first round of the UEFA Cup, and this match, not his future, Ivanauskas says, is foremost in his mind.

"This game is very important for the club, the fans and for me. The players want to get into the group stages, as does Mr Romanov and myself but we don't have any pressure.

"Pressure was playing against Gretna in the Scottish Cup final, the game against Aberdeen that we needed to win last season to qualify for the Champions League and even the game against Siroki Brijeg in the Champions League qualifier at the start of the season."
