Vicenza goalkeeper faced paralysis

22 October 2006 15:59

VICENZA, Oct 22 (SW) - Matteo Guardalben has talked about the career threatening injury he suffered, which left him partially paralysed during training.

Guardalben was accidentally hit in the back by a fellow teammate and was left unable to move his body on October 4th.

“I’m much better now, but in those moments my whole life flashed before my eyes. I thought I’d never be able to hold my children again and would be useless to them. I even hoped I’d be given an injection to end it all. Now the worst has passed, thankfully,” said the 32 year old.

He went on to explain the severity of his condition saying, “I was paralysed from the neck down for around an hour. I was just lying on the ground unable to move my legs or arms. Then for three or four days I had serious problems moving.”
