MANCHESTER, Oct 22 (SW) - England defender Rio Ferdinand has demanded a crackdown on racist players.

As well as Benni McCarthy’s recent claim of racist abuse, England under-21 Anton Ferdinand had also complained of similar abuse during a recent match against Germany.

His older brother Rio Ferdinand has now spoken out about his feelings towards players who use racist language.

"People need to be hung out to dry. There needs to be nowhere they can have a safe haven, said the Manchester United player.

"Until the punishment is severe, people will do it and get away with it."
