Platini would minimise Champions League

21 October 2006 11:51

BRUSSELS, Oct 21 (SW) - Michel Platini has revealed that if he wins the Uefa presidential election he would reduce Champions League places.

Currently Spain, Italy and England are all allowed four teams to represent each nation in the Champions league but Platini would change this system to only allow three clubs to participate.

"Four clubs are too many - for the country itself, the fans and TV rights. Three should be the limit, there are not enough national champions in the last 32 of the tournament and that cannot be right," commented Platini.

The Frenchman also went on to say that if he did ever succeed president Lennart Johansson, then video evidence would never be introduced.

"If you start with videos, you will finish with videos and there would be no more referees. I am totally against refereeing by video, where would it stop?"
