West Brom want Mowbray

WEST BROMWICH, Oct 11 (Sw) - West Bromwich Albion have set their eyes on Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray. He is to fill in for sacked Bryan Robson.

The Championship side departed with Robson in September, and his former assistant Nigel Pearson took the role as caretaker. Mowbray is the prime target for the club that relegated last season from the premiership.

A statement on the Baggies website read: "Hibernian is one of a number of clubs from whom Albion has sought permission to speak to its manager regarding the vacancy at The Hawthorns."

The Hibs website confirmed the interest. Mowbray however has said in the past he desired to stay in Edinburgh, previously rejecting Ipswich and Wolves. He is on a 12-month rolling contract.

Mowbray has been quite succesful in his two years at the Edinburgh club, taking the Hibs from struggling relegation contenders in Scotland to the UEFA cup.
