ZÜRICH/BRAGA, Nov 2 (SW) - AZ Alkmaar are close to a place in the next round of the UEFA Cup after a 2-5 win at Grasshoppers, while Sporting Braga easily beat Slovan Liberec.

Grasshoppers - AZ Alkmaar 2-5

The Swiss hosts opened the score through Mbala Mbuta in the 29th minute but allowed AZ, who had difficulties in the first half, to come back through Shota Arveladze in the 48th.

The Dutch then went on to take the lead as Demy de Zeeuw fired a powerful distance strike past the goalkeeper, but six minutes later it was Eduardo to score from a Roland Schwegler cross, 2-2.

AZ insisted however and would eventually win the match. Belgian Moussa Dembélé met a Danny Koevermans cross to set the score to 2-3, and the visitors would net another two in the dying minutes through Maarten Martens and again Dembélé.

Braga - Liberec 4-0

After thirty minutes at the well known Municipal stadium of Braga, which became famous as the 'rock stadium' of Euro 2004, the score was opened by Ricardo Chaves.

Marcel added a second goal three minutes later and the Czechs were given no chance to reply.

In the second half, Braga were handed a penalty when Zapotnocny fouled Maciel, and Cesinha converted the spotkick for 3-0. A late fourth goal came from Gama in the 91st minute.
