Juventus to strengthen with Barzagli

2 November 2006 06:58

PALERMO, Nov 2 (SW) – Juventus look certain to complete the signing of Italian international defender Andrea Barzagli in January.

The Palermo player was linked with a switch to the Bianconeri in the summer, but the move did not take place with all the complications of Juventus’ part in the Calciopoli scandal and the uncertainty over their playing status.

However, with the Turin giants making rapid progress towards a Serie A return, Palermo officials are now indicating that a move is likely to take place.

“Barzagli is destined for Juve, it is very difficult to block a player like him,” said Rosaneri sporting director Rino Foschi.

“We bought him from Chievo in 2004 for £4.6m and we will earn £10m from his sale, so we can’t complain.”

Juventus currently sit third in the Serie B table after being imposed with a revised deduction of nine competition points.
