TOKYO, May 13 (SW) - Scotland held Japan to a scoreless draw in Tokyo to win the Kirin Cup, a friendly tournament of three national teams.

Both teams had already defeated Bulgaria, but Scotland did so by a more comfortable margin, and a draw with Japan would be enough to win the cup.

Japan were the stronger side, but failed to actually break the deadlock. For the Asians, this was their last preparation match on home soil before continuing their World Cup preparation elsewhere.

The Kirin Cup was first held in 1978, and normally involves either national sides or club teams. However, only national teams have participated since 1992.
