LIVERPOOL, May 9 (SW) - Everton have signed American international keeper Tim Howard on a 12 month loan from Manchester United.
26-year-old Howard has struggled to find his first team place at Old Trafford this season since the arrival of Edwin Van der Sar from Fulham, but it is believed Ferguson has no plans for this to become a permanent move.
Everton meanwhile will see him as the perfect replacement for Richard Wright, whose career is drawing to a close at Goodison Park. They still have Nigel Martyn however, but he is still recovering from recent ankle surgery and so may only be capable of providing back-up. If Howard impresses at Goodison a firm offer may follow next season.
Howard joined Old Trafford back in the summer of 2003, signed from American MLS side Metrostars for £2.3 million. He has made a total of 77 appearances for United and 3 out of 3 appearances for the USA national side this season during their World Cup qualifiers.
It is believed the American will join the Goodison oufit after the World Cup tournament, where he is one of three goalkeepers selected by the US coach Bruce Arena, and will stay for the whole of the 2006/07 season.
