MIAMI, Mar 31 (SW) - Controversial Brazilian striker Romario has agreed a move to FC Miami of the second-tier United Soccer League (USL).
Romario was under contract with four-time Brazilian champion Vasco de Gama, but had not reported to the club since March 15, when Vasco lost 2-0 to minnow Cabofriense, erasing any hope of the club winning the Rio de Janeiro state championship.
The 40-year-old Romario will play with Miami until season’s end in September, then rejoin Vasco, club president Eurico Miranda said in a news conference.
The striker is 36 goals shy of his 1,000th career goal, surprising everyone last year by topping the scoring charts in Brazil with 22 goals.
