4 March 2006 22:27

AJACCIO, Mar 4 (SW) - Lyon went nine points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on Saturday with a victory away to Ajaccio, while second-placed Bordeaux had their match with Sochaux postponed.

Ajaccio - Lyon 1-3

It took Lyon 62 minutes to breakthrough the Ajaccio defense, but talisman Juninho was able to finally put the visitors on the board, and that goal was followed by a goal by Fred 15 minutes later.

Ajaccio looked to have a bit of life left in them in teh 83rd minute when Waldir Pereira pulled a goal back, but any chance of a comeback was thwarted by Karim Benzema three minutes from time, as he restored Lyon's two-goal lead.

Lille - Le Mans 4-0

Lille consolidated their position in third place with a dominant performance against Le Mans.

Peter Odemwingie put the home side in front after the first quarter-hour had been played, and Mathieu Bodmer's spot kick in the 37th minute sent Lille to the dressing room with a 2-0 lead.

Rafael Schmitz extended the advantage to 3-0 just 10 minutes after the restart, and Kevin Mirallas completed the rout in the 77th minute.

Metz - Monaco 2-1

Metz jumped off the bottom of the table, but are still mired in the relegation zone after they defeated Monaco.

Italian striker Marco Di Vaio fired the principality side in front in the 37th minute, but an own goal by Jaroslav Plasil put Metz level in the 71st.

Nine minutes later, Hervé Tum scored the go-ahead goal for Metz and they held on to secure a nice victory.

Nice - Lens 0-0

Lens jumped up to sixth place on Saturday after holding Nice to a goalless draw on the Côte d'Azure.

Nice also moved back into the top half of the table with the point from the match.

Rennes - Strasbourg 2-1

Coming off of last weekend's thrashing of Lyon, Rennes narrowly edged out Strasbourg.

Swedish international Kim Källström put Rennes in front in the 62nd minute, and Jimmy Briand doubled the lead just five minutes later. Although Cédric Kanté pulled a goal back for Strasbourg on 80 minutes, the home side held firm for the win.

Toulouse - Nancy 1-1

Adrian Sarkissian put Nancy into the lead after 68 minutes of goalless football, but their chances for an away win were dashed seven minutes later as Achille Emana equalized for Toulouse.

Sochaux - Bordeaux P-P

Due to heavy snow, officials decided to postpone the match between Sochaux and Bordeaux, but no makeup date has yet been announced.
