Gronkjaer joins Copenhagen

23 June 2006 16:09

COPENHAGEN, June 23 (SW) - Denmark international Jesper Gronkjaier has signed a four-year contract with Danish champions FC Copenhagen.

Gronkjaer leaves German side Vfb Stuttgart after one unspectacular season.

"I feel that FCK have the potential to go far in Europe. The club's big ambition appeals to me and the environment here seems perfect,” the 28-year-old said.

Copenhagen coach Stalle Solbakken added: "In my opinion Jesper Grønkjær possesses exactly the qualities we need in our team. He is good at breaking through defences, he has a lot of international experience and he can play on the right side as well as on the left."

Since leaving Chelsea in 2004 (scoring 7 goals in 88 appearances for the club), Gronkjaer has had short and ill-fated stays with Birmingham City, Atletico Madrid and, most recently, Stuttgart.

He has made 60 apperances for Denmark, scoring 5 goals.

Copenhagen have qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League.
