WASHINGTON, June 23 (SW) - Talented youngster Freddy Adu has admitted he would play for his homeland team of Ghana instead of the U.S.A.
The 17 year old currently plays for MLS club D.C United and did not make the U.S squad that participated in the World Cup finals.
When asked if he would ever play for his country of birth Adu replied, "It's still open, you never know, the way Ghana is playing right now, they're a good, good team."
He added, "I guess whoever comes along and offers me that chance, you know, in the near future, I'll think about it and we'll see what happens.
"Because you never know, maybe I might not get a chance to play for the US national team."
As the midfielder has not played an international Fifa-sanctioned friendly for any country yet he would still be eligible to play for the Black Stars.
Ghana qualified for the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over the United States.
