Wanchope will retire from international football

HAMBURG, June 16 (SW) - Costa Rican striker Paolo Wanchope will retire from International football now his side are out of the World Cup.

Wanchope scored two goals in the World Cup’s opening game against hosts Germany and is Costa Rica's all-time leading scorer. He will end his international career against Poland and today revealed the news about his retirement saying, '' I will not continue with the national team after this World Cup.''

'' One has to know when to stop and my time has come. I can no longer make certain sacrifices and I prefer to stop now.''

Although Costa Rica have not gained any points in the competition so far, the former West Ham and Manchester City striker is keen to win the sides last game, he stated, '' We really want to win our last game, '' adding, '' it’s something we owe to our fans.''

Costa Rican manager, Alexandre Guimaraes was disappointed with another missed chance for his side, he commented, "Of the three World Cups we have been to, this has been the worst.
