TRIPOLI, June 12 (SW) - Libyan leader, Muammar Gadaffi has launched a verbal attack on FIFA regarding there attitude towards the poorer footballing nations.
Gadaffi’s views were a reaction to Fifa’s decision to sell exclusive rights to World Cup broadcast’s to pan-Arabic channel ART. The pay to view channel now has the rights to air the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cup finals to most of North Africa.
The channel itself has revealed that the decoder which is needed to watch the games will cost over $150.
"According to Fifa rules, no poor country will ever be able to host the World Cup and poor people are not even able to enjoy the pleasure of watching its games," commented Gadaffi on his website.
He added, "Even broadcasting it through radio and television has been monopolized. The poor will not attend it nor see it, nor hear it nor read it"
FIFA president, Sepp Blatter did also not escape criticism from the Libyan leader, as he remarked, "Blatter is a wise man with a decent personality and I respect him, yet we are not certain of his ability or inability to change what is wrong with Fifa".
In contrast Morocco are thought to have arranged a deal which will allow their fans to view some of the tournaments games on their national channel.
