BELGRADE, July 31 (SW) - Red Star Belgrade have strengthened their defence with the signing of Senegal international Ibrahim Gueye.

Gueye has signed a three-year deal with Belgrade after completing his move from Turkish club Samsunspor and is looking to recapture his match fitness in time for his new clubs game against Vozdovac.

Gueye commented, "This is the greatest Serbian club and we want to go as far as we can in every competition."

"I am overjoyed to be a part of Red Star, a great club I've heard so much about. I want to prove my worth here and live up to expectations,"

The Serbian side will face A.C Milan if they beat Cork City in the Champions League second qualifying round, which they already lead 1-0 after the first leg.

Serbian striker Nikola Zigic was thought to be a target for several Premiership teams, but no clubs have been prepared to pay a price tag of over 10 million Euros for Zigic, who remains at Red Star.
