SAO PAULO, Jul 22 (SW) - It is expected that the outgoing Brazilian national football coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira, will be the new South African football coach. In a statement made in a Sao Paulo newspaper on Thursday, Parreira said that he expected to be announced as the new coach.
The 2010 World Cup Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan is being tight – lipped about the announcement. However he did mention that he has had the greatest admiration for the man who guided Brazil to the 1994 World Cup title in the USA.
Parreira has been widely criticized for the poor performances in Germany during the World Cup, despite his track record over the past few years and his stature as one of the top coaches around.
His expertise and insight to the game with all of its intricacies, something lack recently with Bafana Bafana, is what the South African national team needs.
Hack SAFA CEO; however, lived up to his reputation as a canny legal eagle and said he was "not in possession of a contract designating anyone as the new Bafana coach".
"Until I have such a contract in my hands," added the SAFA CEO, "there is nothing more I can say about any appointment."
It was further revealed that SAFA had reportedly offered to pay the Brazilian in excess of €130 000 a month as they pursued an urgent quest to obtain a world-class coach for the 2010 World Cup.
