ANTWERP, Jan 29 (SW) - Club Brugge, Standard Liège and Anderlecht all failed to claim victories in the Jupiler League this weekend, allowing Racing Genk and Zulte-Waregem close the gap.
Germinal - Anderlecht 2-0
Anderlecht sit in third place, two points behind the leaders after their winless league run went to four games in a loss away to Germinal.
Jurgen Cavens put the home side in front with a goal in the 26th minute and then sealed the deal with his second of the match five minutes from time to condemn Anderlecht to defeat.
Sint-Truiden - Standard Liège 0-0
Coming off a loss in the Belgian Cup against Gent, Standard remained in second place on goal difference after playing out a stalemate away to second-from-bottom Sint-Truiden.
It was a good result for the home side, although they have not won a league game in nine games since a thrashing at Zulte-Waregem.
La Louvière - Zulte-Waregem 2-2
Zulte-Waregem had a chance to pull within three points of the top two in Belgium, but a second-half equalizer by Egutu Oliseh forced the visitors to settle for a draw.
Tony Sergeant put Zulte-Waregem in front in the 32nd minute, but Jaroslaw Mazurkiewicz leveled for the home side just before the half-time interval.
Stijn Meert retook the lead for the visitors, but their hopes of a win were dashed nine minutes later when Oliseh converted from the penalty spot.
Racing Genk - Westerlo 2-0
That result allowed Genk to go into fourth place on goal difference with a win over Westerlo.
Bob Peeters opened the scoring for the home side just seven minutes into the action, and Sebastien Pocognoli extended the advantage in the 38th minute.
Cercle Brugge - Gent 1-2
Gent are up to seventh after they were victorious in Brugge over Cercle which started in the 36th minute as Wouter Vrancken put the visitors into the lead.
With a quarter-hour to play, Zephirin Zoko put Gent up 2-0 and put the game out of reach, although Dieter Deklever got a consolation goal two minutes from time for Cercle.
FC Brussels - Lokeren 1-1
Both teams still remain in the top half of the table, but it was the home side who took the advantage seven minutes before they went to the dressing rooms at the break as Kristof Snelders found the back of the net.
Lokeren, however, needed just eight second-half minutes to claim an equalizer through Killian Overmeire.
Lierse - Beveren 2-0
Bottom side Lierse claimed just their second victory of the season as they dispatched of fellow strugglers Beveren.
Aleksandr Yakovenko put Lierse into the lead in the 24th minute and Beveren's chances of getting back into the game were ended in the 77th minute when Alexandre Tokpa was dismissed. Shortly after, Goran Mujanovic sealed the victory.
Excelsior Mouscron - Charleroi 0-1
The game in Mouscron was decided early on as Charleroi's Brazilian striker Orlando struck in the 11th minute to take Charleroi to victory.
Roeselare - Club Brugge 1-1
All the results at the top meant Club Brugge had a chance to earn a small bit of breathing room at the top, but they ended the weekend in the lead merely on goal difference after being held to a draw away to Roeselare.
The home side took a shock lead after just 15 minutes when Wagneau Eloi found the back of the net, but their hopes of an upset were dashed in the 70th minute when Manaseh Ishiaku saved some face for the visitors.
