France: Bordeaux to within nine points after Lens victory

28 January 2006 22:16

BORDEAUX, Jan 28 (SW) - A penalty by Lilian Laslandes lifted second-placed Bordeaux to a victory at home over Lens on Saturday in Ligue 1, lifting them to within nine points of idle league leaders Lyon.

NOTE: The following league matches were postponed due to poor weather: Nantes - Troyes, Saint-Etienne - Nice, and Strasbourg - Paris Saint-Germain.

Bordeaux - Lens 1-0

Bordeaux had a couple of chances early on to take a lead, including an effort by Vladimir Smicer that went wasted, but the winning goal came from the spot in the 27th minute through former French international Laslandes.

After Jean-Claude Darcheville was brought down in the area by Adama Coulibaly, the 34-year-old Laslandes stepped up to the spot and his shot into the net after it went off of goalkeeper Charles Itandje.

Auxerre - Rennes 2-0

Auxerre remain just three points back of Bordeaux in third place after they got two second-half goals to defeat Rennes on Saturday.

Luigi Pieroni got his eighth goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 68th minute to give Jacques Santini's men the lead and Thomas Kahlenberg doubled the advantage 11 minutes later to put the game out of reach.

Auxerre did have to finish the match with ten men after Lionel Mathis was sent off with a straight red card two minutes from time.

Marseille - Sochaux 0-0

On a nasty pitch at the Stade Vélodrome, Marseille extended their unbeaten streak at home in league play to 11 games after a stalemate against Sochaux.

The home side had a chance to win the match in the 78th minute, but Sabri Lamouchi failed to convert from the penalty spot and Sochaux escaped with a point.

Le Mans - Toulouse 1-1

Le Mans jumped up to seventh place in their first season back in Ligue 1 after they played out a draw against Toulouse.

Just ten minutes into the match, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro put the visitors into the lead, but Tulio De Melo's seventh goal of the season, which leads the team, got Le Mans level in the 22nd minute.

Nancy - Ajaccio 0-0

Ajaccio desperately needed an away win to help them try to start clawing their way out of the relegation zone, but they were held to a scoreless draw at Nancy.

Ajaccio still have just one win and five points away from their home stadium and are now eight points behind 17th-placed Troyes in the safety zone.
