BRUGES, Jan 22 (SW) - Club Brugge went top of the Jupiler League on goal difference with a win over FC Brussels as the Belgian top flight returned from winter break this weekend.
Club Brugge - FC Brussels 3-0
Javier Portillo put the home side into the lead in the 24th minute and they held that lead until Kevin Roelandts doubled it in the 67th minute.
Portillo, who is playing with Brugge on loan from Real Madrid, added his second of the game to complete the win with four minutes to play.
Standard Liège - Zulte-Waregem 1-2
Fourth-placed Zulte-Waregem are now just five points behind the top two teams as they condemned second-placed Standard to defeat at home.
Frederik D'Hollander put the visitors in front five minutes into the second half, but Christian Negouai leveled for Standard in the 74th minute, only for Tony Sergeant to retake the lead less than a minute later.
Anderlecht - Cercle Brugge 2-2
Anderlecht sit one point back of the leaders after they were held to a shock draw at home against Cercle Brugge.
After a scoreless first half, Harold Meyssen put Cercle into the lead in the 55th minute before Anthony van den Borne equalized for the home side in the 72nd.
Dieter Deklever then shockingly retook the lead for the visitors just three minutes later, but their hopes were dashed six minutes from time when Argentine striker Nicolás Frutos found the back of the net.
Westerlo - Germinal 1-3
Westerlo remain are now in fifth place after a home defeat at the hands of Germinal, who didn't open the scoring until the 70th minute when Jonas de Roeck scored and it was 2-0 two minutes later when Tosin Dosunmu found the goal.
A penalty by Christiaan Janssens in the 79th minute pulled Westerlo back to within a goal, but Dosunmu restored the two-goal lead just six minutes later for Germinal.
Gent - La Louvière 3-0
It was all Gent from the beginning as Zephirin Zoko put the home side in front just five minutes in and Moubarak Boussoufa made it two just eight minutes later.
The match was over in the 23rd minute when Nicolas Lombaerts made it 3-0 to the home side.
Beveren - Roeselare 1-1
Trying to get clear of the relegation zone, Beveren were held to a draw by Roeselare after all the scoring was completed within the first ten minutes of the game.
Wagneau Eloi put the visitors in front just four minutes in before Gerginho leveled for Beveren in the 10th minute.
Sint-Truiden - Lierse 1-1
The matchup of the two bottom sides in the league produced no winner as a late goal saved Lierse from defeat away from home.
Desire M'Bonabucva put the home side in front in the 24th minute. It appeared as if they were headed for a much-needed victory, but Lierse's Alessandro Nunes spoiled those plans with an equalizing goal four minutes from time.
Lokeren - Mouscron 1-1
It was another late goal that made the difference as Lokeren fought back to earn a draw at home against Mouscron.
Francisco Sanchez saw the visitors in front on 20 minutes, but Aristide Bance put the match back on level terms with a goal nine minutes from the end.
Charleroi - Genk 2-1
In Sunday's lone Belgian game, two first-half goals lifted Charleroi to victory over Genk.
Turkish international Izzet Akgul put the home side in front just four minutes into the proceedings, and Ukraine's Sergiy Serebrennikov made it 2-0 two minutes before half-time.
Kevin Vandenbergh pulled one back for Genk in the 66th minute, but it was merely consolation.
