Scotland: Celtic beat Motherwell, Hearts lose to Kilmarnock

MOTHERWELL, Jan 22 (SW) - Celtic extended their lead in the Scottish Premier League with a 1-3 win at Motherwell while Hearts suffered a defeat at Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Saturday: Kilmarnock - Hearts 1-0 Hearts failed to stay in touch with Celtic at the top, and were defeated by Kilmarnock. The only goal of the match was scored by Danny Invincibile in the 46th minute. Hibernian - Dunfermline 3-1 Derek Riordan put Hibernian in the lead after 17 minutes, but Simon Donnelly levelled for Dunfermline in the 35th. However, Hibs restored the gap with a second goal from Riordan in the 71st minute, and Steven Fletcher added a third in the 89th. Glasgow Rangers - Livingston 4-1 Rangers easily defeated last-placed Livingston at Ibrox. Kris Boyd's 8th-minute goal was cancelled out by Gabor Vincze in the 52nd, but Boyd scored another to restore the lead in the 56th. Croatian striker Dado Prso went on to net another two in the 89th and 90th minutes. Falkirk - Inverness 1-4 Barry Wilson needed only three minutes to open the score for Inverness, but Craig Ireland equalized eight minutes later. However, Inverness again took the lead through Dennis Wyness in the 18th minute, and Craig Dargo converted a penalty for 1-3 in the 38th. A fourth and last goal came from Ross Tokely in the 56th minute. Dundee United - Aberdeen 1-1 Darren Mackie put Aberdeen in the lead when 49 minutes had been played, but United's Alan Archibald levelled the score only four minutes later. Sunday: Motherwell - Celtic 1-3 Maciej Zurawksi opened the score for Celtic in the 17th minute but the hosts came back with a goal from Jim Hamilton in the 41st. The Bhoys restored their lead through Aiden McGeady in the 71st minute however, and John Hartson added a third with five minutes left to go. |
