Netherlands: PSV extend lead in Eredivisie

EINDHOVEN, Jan 22 (SW) - PSV Eindhoven extended their lead in the Dutch Eredivisie with a win over RKC Waalwijk while both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord dropped points in home matches.
Friday: PSV Eindhoven - RKC Waalwijk 2-0 Reigning champions and current leaders PSV defeated RKC in a provincial derby. Both goals were scored by American winger DaMarcus Beasley, in the 4th and 76th minutes. Saturday: AZ Alkmaar - FC Groningen 1-1 AZ Alkmaar dropped valuable points against FC Groningen. The visitors took the lead through Glen Salmon in the 16th minute, but AZ levelled with a goal from Georgian striker Shota Arveladze on the hour mark. SC Heerenveen - Sparta 0-0 After last week's defeat by Groningen, FC Heerenveen failed to recover in time for the clash against Sparta. Against the relegation candidates, the result was a scoreless draw. Vitesse - Willem II 2-1 A goal from Moussa Dembele in the 24th minute seemed to be enough for Willem II to take the victory in Arnhem. But the hosts levelled through Fred Benson in the 87th minute and the same player would also score Vitesse's winning goal two minutes later. RBC Roosendaal - Heracles Almelo 1-2 Last-placed RBC have yet to achieve a win this season, but were handed their 15th defeat by Heracles. The guests scored through Sota Hirayama and Mika Nurmela in the 25th and 45th minutes respectively. Bjorn Daelemans got one back for RBC in the 59th minute. Sunday: Feyenoord - Roda JC 0-0 Feyenoord failed to take advantage of AZ's draw and could not stay in PSV's track on Sunday. In De Kuip stadium, Erwin Koeman's side failed to score and was held to a goalless draw. FC Twente - Ajax 2-3 FC Twente took a secure lead with goals from Blaise N'Kufo in the 25th and 52nd minutes. Midfielder Wesley Sneijder scored one back for Ajax in the 57th, and Hedwiges Maduro netted another in the 89th. Ajax' great escape was not over yet, as Urby Emanuelson scored a decisive goal in stoppage time. NEC Nijmegen - ADO Den Haag 5-0 NEC Nijmegen crushed ADO Den Haag with five goals in the second half. Edgar Barreto broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, followed by a goal from Jones five minutes later. Romano Denneboom netted the third in the 63rd minute, Jones got another in the 73rd, and a fifth and last goal came from Andrzej Niedzielan in the 90th minute. FC Utrecht - NAC Breda 2-2 Sander Keller's 33rd-minute goal for Utrecht was cancelled out by Anouar Diba three minutes later, but the hosts restored their lead through Robin Nelisse in the first minute of the second half. However, NAC would secure one point as Maceo Righters levelled in the 61st minute. |
