WEST BROMWICH, Feb 1 (SW) – Following his aborted attempts to sign ‘Boro defender Ugo Ehiogu, Bryan Robson has turned his attention to Uruguayan Williams Martinez.
The player will join from current club Defensor and will hope to help the Baggies battle relegation.
"Williams is captain of his club and has got into the last couple of Uruguay squads,” said an excited Robson.
"He's a good tackler but also has very good technique.
"The reason I say that, is that when his team get a free-kick, he is the one who takes them.
"He uses the ball very well but is also a no-nonsense centre-half.
"I've been talking to Daniel Fonseca, who knows all the Uruguayan players, over the last three months about the players over there.
"Williams comes highly recommended by him as probably the best young player in Uruguay at the moment.
"From what I've seen of him, he does have very good attributes.
"How long it would take him to settle down into Premiership football and the pace of the game, only time will tell."
