Retirment for Zdenek Zeman

31 December 2006 15:17

LECCE, Dec 31 (SW) – Former Roma, Foggia, Lecce and Lazio coach Zdenek Zeman is preparing to retire from football management.

The 59 year old returned to manage to Lecce this year but walked out on the club following arguments with the board over his record of 10 defeats, two draws and six wins in 18 games.

Zeman explained, “When Lecce called me again in June I kidded myself that I’d be able to work with a solid project, as I had at Licata and Foggia. Instead, they were afraid to wait and enjoy the growth of their young players.”

“It’s not so much Lecce’s problem as that of football on the whole. I’ll only work with who is truly prepared to wait for youngsters to mature or to build a winning squad, but I could even put my feet up and become a pensioner,” continued the Czech born coach.

“Now I’ll return to live in Rome and start following the games at the Olimpico. Lazio are doing well, but Roma are more entertaining and play the best football. They have the most interesting approach, all thanks to Luciano Spalletti and his men.”
