Bury to appeal FA Cup expulsion

21 December 2006 20:42

LONDON, Dec 21 (SW) - League Two side Bury will appeal to the Football Association to be reinstated to the FA Cup after they were taken out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

Midfielder Stephen Turnbull, who is on loan to the club from Hartlepool United, played 80 minutes during Bury's 3-1 victory over Chester City in a second-round replay last week, but did not ask Hartlepool for permission to play him.

In addition, the club failed to notify the FA of their intent to field Turnbull in the match.

Chester were allowed back into the competition for the third round in the place of Bury, who last won the FA Cup in 1900.
