Brawl blackens El Nacional championship

18 December 2006 11:16

QUITO, Dec 18 (Sw) - El Nacional's second Ecuadorian title in a row was overshadowed by violence at the match of rivals LDU Quito in which a player got injured.

The matches on Sunday were decisive for the title, and El Nacional's 0-0 draw at Olmedo proved enough. Meanwhile however, the match between LDU and Barcelona spinned out of control right before the full time whistle.

That match ended in 1-1, and also ended all hopes for LDU to win the league. Two players of LDU, Augustin Delgado and Carlos Espinola, are reported to be at the heart of the problems. Barcelona midfielder Leonardo Soledispa was taken to hospital after he was kicked repeatedly while being down.

LDU got the lead, but Barcelona equalised 12 minutes from time, despite being down to 10 men.
