BRAGA, Dec 14 (SW) - Portuguese side Sporting Braga are through to the next round in the UEFA Cup following a 2-0 win over Grasshoppers. AZ won at Sevilla to finish first in Group C.
Sporting Braga - Grasshoppers 2-0 An hour had been played in Braga and no goals had been scored yet. At that moment, the result was in favour of Slovan Liberec but one goal for Braga would change everything. That goal came in the 61st minute and was scored by Joao Pinto. Vitor Castanheira added a second in added time to secure the victory. Braga have six points from four games, one point more than Liberec. Sevilla - AZ Alkmaar 1-2 A draw was enough for AZ to finish first in this group. Sevilla however, took the lead as Chevanton converted a spotkick in the 52nd minute. But Georgian striker Shota Arveladze levelled in the 62nd minute, just to score the winning goal far into injury time. Having accumulated ten points, the Dutch side win this group with Sevilla finishing second with seven points. |
