ALKMAAR, Dec 4 (sw) - Ronald Waterreus has signed a contract with AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper was unattached since leaving Rangers in the summer, and was waiting for an offer from a club from the United States. A clause in his contract says he is allowed to leave would an MLS club come in. He is negotiating a deal with New York Red Bull.
AZ is struggling with injured keepers, leaving young and inexperienced ones as the last line of defense. Waterreus is a short-term solution for the Dutch contenders. Before Rangers he played for an extensive period at PSV.
