YOKOHAMA, Dec 17 (SW) - Brazilian side Internacional has won the Club World Cup, beating FC Barcelona 1-0 in the Japanese city of Yokohama.

The two teams were each other's equals throughout most of the match but both struggled to create real chances.

It was not until the 81st minute that Internacional's Adriano took advantage of bad defence by Puyol and beat Vitor Valdes to set the score to 1-0.

In added time, Ronaldinho came close to saving his team but a free kick hit the outside of the post.

Internacional continue the Brazilian dominance in this tournament, which was held only twice before. In 2000, Corinthians won the trophy and Sao Paulo followed last year.

It is the first time that Internacional are able to call themselves champions of the world. Barcelona have never won this tournament, or its predecessor, the Intercontinental Club Cup.

In the battle for third place, Egyptian side Al Alhy beat Club America 2-1 in Tokyo.

Aboutrika scored the opening goal after 42 minutes but Canabas levelled close to the hour mark. But with eleven minutes left, Aboutrika added another to earn his side a bronze medal.
