Bayern confirm Van Bommel signing
MUNICH, Aug 29 (SW) - Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel has sealed a €6 million move to Bayern Munich from Spanish champions Barcelona.
The 29 year old expressed his regret at leaving Barcelona after the success that the club have had over the last season but is now focused on defending Bayern’s league and cup titles.
Van Bommel signed a three-year contract with the German champions and believes they can progress in the Champions league this season. "Let's see what we can do in Europe, Bayern always has a strong team that allows it to perform well there, " announced the Dutch international.
Bayern have also made clear that the arrival of van Bommel does not mean that Owen Hargreaves will be signing for Manchester United before the current transfer deadline.
It is thought that Felix Magath views the former PSV player as a replacement for German international Michael Ballack.
