MOSCOW, Aug 23 (SW) - Spartak Moscow, Galatasaray, Steaua Bucharest, Lille, CSKA Moscow, Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Athens have all defeated their third preliminary round opponents to secure a spot in the Champions League group phase.
Spartak Moscow - Liberec 2-1
Spartak Moscow win 2-1 on aggregate
Things looked good for the home side when Mozart opening the score in the 23rd minute, but the Russians had to survive with only ten players during most of the second half, after a red card for Tomas Zapotocny.
The Czech visitors took advantage as Ivan Hodur scored from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute, and this away goal would be enough for Liberec to qualify for the group phase.
However, Roman Pavlyuchenko restored Spartak's lead six minutes later, and Liberec could not level the score again.
Boleslav - Galatasaray 1-1
Galatasaray win 6-3 on aggregate
There was little to play for at Boleslav versus Galatasaray, as the Turks had already won the first leg 5-2.
World Cup 2002 star Hasan Sas broke the deadlock for 'Gala' in the 73rd minute, and Marian Palat's goal for 1-1 in the 88th minute could not help the hosts.
Steaua Bucharest - Standard Liege 2-1
Steaua Bucharest win 4-3 on aggregate
After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, anything was still possible in the second. Standard Liege had a perfect start as Milan Jovanovic gave his side the lead in less than two minutes.
But goals from Valentin Vasile Badea, who scored in the 35th and 51st minutes, turned things around for the Romanians and this was enough for the Romanians to advance.
Ricardo Manuel Sa Pinto of Standard was red-carded with eight minutes to go in regular time.
Rabotnicki - Lille 0-1
Lille win 5-0 on aggregate
Lille had already showed their strength in the first leg, where they beat Rabotnicki 4-0. In the second leg, the French were less dominant but still managed to win 0-1 with a goal from Johan Audel in the 18th minute.
Ruzomberok - CSKA Moscow 0-2
CSKA Moscow win 5-0 on aggregate
CSKA had nothing to fear after their 3-0 win in the first leg, and Daniel Carvalho scored the opening goal in the second leg after five minutes.
Another Brazilian, Vagner Love made it 0-2 after 28 minutes to give the Russians a comfortable 5-0 win on aggregate.
Legia Warsaw - Shakthar Donetsk 2-3
Shakhtar Donetsk win 4-2 on aggregate
Shakthar won the first leg 1-0 but Legia levelled the aggregate score through Piotr Wlodarczyk in the 17th minute.
But goals from Ciprian Marica in the 25th minute and Fernandinho in the 29th seemed to have made an end to Legia's chances. The match was practically decided when Marica scored for 1-3 just before half time.
Wlodarczyk got one back in the 88th minute, but it was too late and Shakhtar are through to the group phase.
AEK Athens - Heart of Midlothian 3-0
AEK Athens win 5-1 on aggregate
After squeaking out a late 2-1 win in Edinburgh two weeks ago, AEK Athens met Hearts on Wednesday in Greece.
The Scottish were struggling and had Julien Brellier sent off in the 30th minute. To make things worse, Neil McCann followed his teammate in the 63rd to leave Hearts with only nine players.
It would take AEK until the 79th minute to take advantage, through a converted spotkick from Julio Cesar. From here on, it was easy and more goals were added by Nikos Lymberopoulos and Julio Cesar.
