Copa Libertadores

PORTO ALEGRE, Aug 17 (SW) - A week after a shock win away from home, Internacional completed their Copa Libertadores triumph over São Paulo, winning the final 4-3 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw at Estádio Beira-Río.

Inter then took the lead in the 29th minute when Fernandão tapped home after the normally sure-handed Rogério Ceni spilled a harmless cross from the right.

São Paulo, six minutes after the restart, got a goal closer to a great comeback when Fabão tucked home after a free kick was flicked toward goal by a São Paulo player in the wall.

However, Inter found a way to get the goal back in the 66th minute when Fernandão recovered the rebound from his parried shot and crossed across the face of goal for Tinga to head home.

Tinga, though, picked up a second yellow card in the midst of the celebrations and was sent off by referee Horacio Elizondo, leaving Inter with just 10 players to complete the match.

Attempting to take advantage of the situation, Lenílson had a crack at goal for the visitors in the 79th minute that went wide, and then Edcarlos missed a gilt-edged chance seconds later.

Five minutes later, however, Lenílson pulled São Paulo a goal closer as he tucked home a rebound from a shot that goalkeeper Clemer could only parry into his path.

It looked as if São Paulo had another goal in their amazing fightback when Alex Dias headed at the rear post from Thiago's cross, but Clemer was able to get two hands out to make the save.

Despite all the pressure, Internacional held on to claim the trophy for the very first time, and booked their place in the World Club Championship.
