Owusu out of World Cup

27 April 2006 20:26

BRENTFORD, Apr 27 (SW) - After only receiving his call up from Ghanaian manager Ratomir Dujkovic last week, Brentford Striker Lloyd Owusu's World Cup dream is over.

The 29 year old suffered a torn groin muscle during the Black Star's friendly game against Stuttgart on wednesday night, which finished in a 1-1 draw.

Brentford boss Martin Allen explained that the injury meant the striker would also miss the league 1 side's bid for promotion, as he would be out for the next six weeks at least. He broke the news to the club's website: "Lloyd played yesterday for Ghana and was taken off injured with a torn groin muscle"

"This will now keep him out for between six to eight weeks and he will not be available for our remaining games and also the World Cup."

Ghana's opening game of this summer's World Cup is against Italy and they will also have to face the United States and Czech Republic in the group stages of the tournament.
