BRENTFORD, Apr 25 (SW) - Brentford striker Lloyd Owusu, has been given a chance to represent Ghana in this summer's World Cup, after being contacted by the Black Stars last week and asked to play in there friendly this wednesday against the German club Stuttgart.

However the call up is not a total surprise for the striker, as he said: "I knew there was an inkling with regard to me making the Ghana squad''. Regardless of this, Owusu was always looking to prove himself to the Ghana coach, Ratomir Dujkovic and knew he needed regular football to acheive this: "I could have still been at Reading, as I had a year left on my contract, but I hadn't been playing regularly for a couple of years and knew I needed to be playing 40 or 45 games a season.

The fact that this call up has happened now, when Lloyd's club Brentford are challenging for promotion this season, has also undoubtedly helped his cause and he is well aware if this, saying: "I've had a couple of caps before and it was a great experience. But it's down to Brentford, all the guys here and the gaffer (manager Martin Allen) that this has happened now.

If Owusu is named in the final Ghanaian squad chosen to play in Germany this summer, then he will join other team members which will include, established captain Appiah and African football's most expensive player, Michael Essien.
