France: Lille beat Bordeaux to close in on second place

LILLE, Apr 15 (SW) - Bordeaux failed to secure their second place in the French Ligue 1, crashing to a 3-2 defeat at third-placed Lille.

Lille - Bordeaux 3-2

Lille took a quick secure lead with goals from Mathieu Bodmet and Peter Odemwingie in the 2nd and 6th minutes respectively, but Jean-Claude Darcheville converted a penalty to give the guests new hope in the 15th.

Odemwingie restored Lille's lead in the 31st minute however and Julien Faubert's 62nd-minute goal for 3-2 was not sufficient.

Marseille - Nancy 6-0

Marseille, in their battle for Champions League spots, crushed Nancy at the Mediterranean sea. Mamadou Niang took care of the first two goals, after which Wilson Oruma and Toifilou Maoulida doubled the lead. Mickael Pagis would add another two goals in the dying minutes.

Saint-Etienne - Lens 2-0

Not a minutes had been played in Saint-Etienne when the hosts took the lead through Julien Sable, and Frederic Piquionne added a second goal in the 36th minute.

Nantes - Auxerre 3-2

Nantes took an easy lead as Dennis Oliech opened the score in the fifth minute, but things were turned around by Kanga Akale and Thomas Kahlenberg in the 59th and 67th minutes.

However, Nantes did not give up and Mauro Cetto levelled a minutes later. The winning goal was also for the home side and came from Emerse Fae with five minutes left in regular time.

Le Mans - Monaco 0-0

Neither side scored in the mid-table clash between Le Mans and AS Monaco. The visitors are currently tenth in the French league, and share that position with Nice.

Sochaux - Strasbourg 1-1

The hosts needed until the 79th minute to break the deadlock through Araujo Ilan, but an equalizer from Pontus Farnerud in the 86th minute meant that Strasbourg are still allowed to hope for a miracle. The side is currently placed 18th, seven points behind Troyes.

Troyes - Ajaccio 3-0

Troyes meanwhile, made sure to take three points against another relegation candidate, Ajaccio. After 35 minutes it was Carl Tourenne to open the score, and Ibrahima Faye added a second in the 41st.

Ibrahima Bangoura netted the third and final goal in the 49th minute, and Ajaccio finished with ten players due to Rodrigo's second yellow card in the 76th minute.
